Chorlton Precinct Consultation 2017
Context
Context: Chorlton Precinct is owned by Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund (GMPVF). The site, in central Chorlton, consists of Graeme House (a seven-storey office building), retail units and parking for 200 cars.
GMPVF’s proposed redevelopment includes;
- new retail spaces along Manchester Road that join up with the district centre
- new townhouses and apartments
- cycle storage and safe routes through the site to promote walking and cycling
- car parking, landscaping and tree planting.
The aim of the public consultation was to work towards a Development Framework for the site, which could be agreed by stakeholders (including the Council’s Executive Committee). This would inform a future, more detailed, planning application
Findings:
- A majority of respondents indicated that there was a need for new homes within Chorlton, with affordable homes as part of any new provision
- There was support for the Precinct redevelopment to be a mixed-use development of new residential and new retail;
- There was strong support for the Precinct to be the subject of new investment and regeneration.
- Similarly, there was strong support for existing retail businesses to be retained and that there should be a mix of independent and national retailers within any new development.
- Support for new improved car parking and provision for cyclists was also raised.
